I spent the weekend in a banana

One thing I have not done much of during my almost 12 years in Chicago is drive. I ditched my last car upon moving here and never looked back. Now that I am moving back to GR in a matter of months, however, I'm going to have to get used to driving almost everywhere I go again. At first this was a daunting idea to me (I have driven only a handful of times in the last 12 years - once a year is a generous estimate), but after this past weekend, I'm kind of looking forward to it. Because this past weekend, I drove.

For the first time since I've lived in Chicago, I rented a car for a trip back to GR. I usually take a train or catch a ride with family/friends. But since the weather this past weekend was slated to be clear and dry (and it was), and I needed to bring quite a few things with me to GR, it seemed like a good weekend to rent a car for the trip. I even had company on my road trip, in the form of the always-awesome D.

The car I got was the cheapest one they had: a Chevy Aveo. It was neither good nor particularly bad to drive, but it definitely didn't inspire me to go Aveo shopping when I do get around to purchasing a vehicle. It was fine to rent, but I think I want something a little more substantial to own. Also, it was bright yellow. Ugh. I was walking down the row of rental cars in the parking ramp where the rental place was, silently praying please don't let my rental be the yellow car, so naturally it was the yellow car. I felt like a fucking clown all weekend.

At any rate, I made the trip to GR and back, ran errands around GR, filled the car up with gas, and navigated Chicago with nary a hitch. Hurrah for me.

Other things I did this weekend:

-Laundry.

-Looked at a couple of cool loft apartments - I really liked them and we'll see what happens as moving time gets closer.

-Saw brother M, who is doing well and makes me smile every time I see him.

-Went out for a grand night on the town for brother J's birthday (he turned 25 yesterday), which included copious amounts of food, drink, bowling (I am a terrible, yet enthusiastic, bowler), family and friends. Excellent.
